A former US National Security Council official\u00a0has described an odd dinner encounter with Russian President Vladimir Putin \u2014 who smelled \u201calmost like he had stepped out of some special preparatory bath.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fiona Hill, who served as an adviser on Russia under then-President Donald Trump, dished on the strongman during a recent sit-down with the BBC Sounds\u2019 \u201cDesert Island Discs\u201d show.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, this sounds really bizarre, but I could smell that he was freshly laundered,\u201d she said. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t wearing cologne, but it was almost like he had stepped out of some special preparatory bath or something, into the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was just all in command of himself projecting this image, I thought, \u2018Wow, look at this!\u2019\u201d Hill recalled. <\/p>\n

\u201cAll of this is staged, every little element of this is staged \u2014 this is a performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hill also noted the Kremlin leader\u2019s tightly controlled appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI took in the suits, one of the finely tailored suits, the way that the little vein pulses on the left-hand side of his face,\u201d she told host Lauren Laverne.<\/p>\n

\u201cI noticed right away that, like the rest of us, he really could have done with glasses because he had these giant cards. I could read them all, cards telling him who was who and what he should say and things like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former national security official also recalled how the brutal Russian leader didn\u2019t eat or drink.<\/p>\n

\u201cI noticed he didn\u2019t eat or drink anything. I watched the watch on his wrist \u2014 very expensive,\u201d she said, adding that Putin was \u201cnot much of a conversationalist\u201d\u00a0and barely even looked at her during the meal.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear when exactly the dinner took place although Hill told \u201cDesert Island Discs\u201d it happened while she was working as a\u00a0national intelligence officer, which she did from 2006 to 2009 as an analyst of Russia and Eurasia.<\/p>\n

Hill\u2019s observations come amid a spate of reports about Putin\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

Anti-Kremlin Telegram account \u201cGeneral SVR\u201d claimed he recently underwent\u00a0surgery to remove fluid from his abdomen.<\/p>\n

It also claims that Putin\u2019s surgery and subsequent recovery was covered up using \u201cdeepfake\u201d technology to simulate his presence in videos of a scheduled meeting of Russia\u2019s security council.<\/p>\n

The outlet\u2019s claims have not been verified.<\/p>\n

Last week, the mysterious channel also claimed that Putin\u00a0had\u00a0prerecorded footage in an attempt to cover up future surgeries\u00a0and was planning on using body doubles if need be.<\/p>\n

In April, Russian investigative outlet The Project reported that the leader has been regularly visited by an oncologist and speculated that he was\u00a0suffering from thyroid cancer.<\/p>\n

The report also included a variety of other ailments, from hockey injuries to back pain from an equestrian incident.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Putin is said to\u00a0bathe in blood extracted from deer antlers, which are hacked off while they are growing and still\u00a0full of fresh blood. The sickening \u201cantler baths\u201d\u00a0are\u00a0an alternative therapy in the Altai region of Russia.<\/p>\n

Speculation about Putin\u2019s health has continued as he\u2019s been videotaped fidgeting, keeping his distance from his subordinates, or otherwise acting strangely in public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
